Character Classes

Overview

There are 4 archetypes of classes in the world of Algol:

  • Warrior (subdivided into Tank or DPS roles)
  • Mage (subdivided into Psionic or Resonance schools, and then into DPS, Esper/Shaman, or Healer roles)
  • Rogue (subdivided into Stealth, Utility, or DPS roles)
  • Tech/Utility (subdivided into Support or Healer roles)

Some class types are further restricted by race—for example, Dezolians are the only race that can be a Shaman, and Espers can play only the Esper class. These restrictions reinforce the lore and unique history of the Algol system. Each race also has distinct modifiers that affect their class abilities and play style.

Notes Regarding Esper and Shaman Classes

  • Esper and Shaman are the only race-specific classes—available only to Espers and Dezolians respectively.
  • Both are tank/utility roles with limited healing, differing from classic Mage DPS builds (such as Arcist and Neuro-Lancer).
  • Esper and Shaman are treated uniquely by NPCs and factions—especially as adversaries of the LeShiec regime. Their travel and social interactions, particularly on Palma, may require stealth, subterfuge, or special roleplay mechanics.

These unique class options provide a fresh experience and distinct roleplay opportunities compared to traditional RPG classes. For more, see the dedicated class pages for Esper and Shaman.
