Re:Phantasy Star is a love letter—to the game that lit the spark
When I was a kid, Phantasy Star on the Sega Master System was my very first real RPG. It introduced me to hit points, magic points, character stats, and turn-based combat—all things I’d never experienced in a game before. It was also the first game where I could save my progress, and that small but powerful feature pulled me deeper into its world than anything else at the time. The art, the story, the feeling of exploration—it all left a lasting mark on me.
Around that same time, I was just beginning to discover anime and manga, even though they weren’t as easy to find back then. Phantasy Star gave me a glimpse into that world before I even knew how to describe why I loved it. When Phantasy Star II came out, I had just turned thirteen and gotten my Sega Genesis—it became another landmark moment in my journey as a gamer and storyteller.
Phantasy Star became the gateway to so much more. It led me to other RPGs, tabletop adventures, and eventually Dungeons & Dragons—back in the days of Advanced D&D 2nd Edition. That early spark turned into a lifelong love of worldbuilding, stories, and imaginative play.
Now, many years later, with the help of modern tools like AI, I finally have a chance to create something that honors those memories—a reimagined vision of the original Phantasy Star that brings forward everything I loved about it, updated through the lens of storytelling, design, and creativity.
